About Sharmila Dance Center

In 1999, Sharmila began teaching dance in the UAE and formerly established her company “Sharmila Dance” in 2006 at the Dubai Community Theatre and Arts Centre, MOE, where she offered classes to students ranging in age of 7 years old through to adults and professionals. On hearing the news that Ductac was shifting to Midriff she decided to open “Sharmila Dance Center” which is based on the 3rd Floor at Al Attar Business Centre in Al Barsha and has three state of the art dance studios. With over 500 students currently attending her classes she looks forward to offering an even larger variety of classes to a wider range of dance and performing arts enthusiasts.

With over 25 years of experience in teaching, choreographing and directing she has discovered the most effective way of teaching dance is by breaking the class format into sections, in order to gain an all rounded training. The “Commercial Dance” class is an open class with: technique, core strengthening, stretching, corner work and a routine that changes every two weeks and varies in styles from Hip Hop, Jazz and Lyrical Contemporary. The class is intense, dynamic and fun, making it perfect for all levels and is known to bring out the performer in you. We will be introducing an “Introductory class” to this style allowing new comers to get a hang of it before having to join the more intense levels.

We also offer open ballet classes to young allowing dancers of various abilities to develop and nurture their technique in an intense but firm environment.

In our new Center we will be having various teachers who are experts in their field offering a variety of classes which you can find out more about will on our website.

Sharmila Dance Center is unique from any other dance school because of the passion, hard work and dedication that is put in from the entire student base and staff. For our team, this not just a job, it is a life style, it is a way to educate the youth of today to discover his or her talent and awaken the performer that is inside everyone.

About Dance

Dancing can be a way to stay fit for people of all ages, shapes, and sizes. Dancing is a whole-body workout that's actually fun.

  • It's good for your heart, it makes you stronger, and it can help with balance and coordination.
  • A 30-minute dance class burns between 130 and 250 calories, about the same as jogging.
  • Your teacher can lead you through a series of choreographed steps. The focus might be on the footwork, but the series of leaps, turns, shimmies, and cha-chas engage the entire body.
  • Dance-inspired workouts range from ballroom and ballet to hip-hop and club dance classes, you’ll never be bored!
